Bangladesh will be heading into the T20 World Cup 2022 as an underdog. This is partly due to their track record and recent performances in the shortest format of the game. They could not secure victories in the Tri-series involving New Zealand and Bangladesh.
Although their bowlers have done well, it’s the batter’s inconsistency, which has hurt them the most. However, there are a few batters, who have proven themselves over the last few years, and some are trying to cement their place in the squad, with fine performances. Here are three such players, who can be leading the batting charts for the Tigers in the showpiece event.
1. Shakib Al Hasan
The Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan will be the critical cog in the batting unit, with his experience and expertise to score runs in crunch moments. He holds the ability to set a platform for the middle order, and also play a finisher role. With much flexibility, Shakib will require consistency and confidence under his belt to keep contributing to the team.
The 35-year-old has 2199 runs in 102 T20Is at a strike rate of 122.43, since making his debut in 2006. In the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup, Shakib garnered 131 runs in six innings, with a top score of 46.
Coming at number four in the recent Tri-series, Shakib was the best batter for Bangladesh with 154 runs in three innings, with a top score of 70 coming against New Zealand. The experienced campaigner is expected to deliver his best in both departments in the showpiece event.
