The eighth edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is already underway in Australia with the Super 12 fixtures. Former champions such as Sri Lanka and the West Indies are currently sweating it out in the First Round to advance to the Super 12 stage. On the other hand, Bangladesh, who are always considered minnows, have already found a place in Super 12.
In this World Cup, ardent cricket fans of the Bangladesh will expect them to spoil the party of big teams and make the contest interesting. In 2007, during the first edition of the World Cup, the Bangla tigers roared by eliminating the West Indies, who were seen as favourites to win the title.
The Bangladesh fans still remember the game for Mohammad Ashraful’s rapid innings of 61 but it were the Bangla bowlers who set the stage for the mighty tigers.
Their bowlers’ economical spell helped the Bangladesh batters to take the team home in their first T20 World Cup clash. Big names such as Chris Gayle, Marlon Samuels, and Dwayne Bravo were left dazed.
Looking at the past performance, this time also, the Bangladesh fans will expect their bowlers to shine against the heavyweights such as India, Pakistan, and South Africa. The bowling unit has the ability to turn the matches towards Bangladesh.
3 players who can possibly be the highest wicket-takers for Bangladesh in T20 World Cup 2022:
3. Taskin Ahmed
Taskin played his first T20I match against Australia in the World T20 2014. In his debut game, the youngster delivered a spectacular performance by conceding just 24 runs and bagged the prized wicket of Glenn Maxwell.
In 2022, the 27-year-old showed his class by guiding his team to their first-ever ODI series win in South Africa against the Proteas. In the three-match ODI series, he rattled South African batters by scalping eight wickets, including his best figures of 5-35 in the third game. He bagged the Player of the Series award for his exceptional bowling display.
Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan has also praised Taskin for his bowling, and in the ongoing T20 World Cup, he (Shakib) will expect this right-arm bowler to provide breakthroughs to the team in crucial moments.
