5. Mohammed Shami

There has been a lot of discussions and a lot of debate on his selection but the board decided against that. With Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel and Arshdeep Singh already in the squad, Mohammed Shami couldn’t fit in. He, however, is one of the standby players that the team management has announced for the T20 World Cup.

The speedster picked up six wickets in the five matches that he has played in the 2021 edition of the tournament and also had a good IPL season. Despite that, the board never considered him for selection in T20I cricket. With Bumrah and Harshal missing, Mohammed Shami could have been given a chance but he never got the opportunity.

Harshal has replaced him in the squad and that has never been a question. Playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Harshal has done well in the IPL and also for India in the limited chances that he got. However, the exclusion of Shami is still a matter of discussion as a lot of fans on social media expressed their anger.
