Virat Kohli is one of the greatest cricketers India has ever produced. The 34-year-old has destroyed top-quality attacks with his marauding bat and amassed a truckload of runs across formats. Talking about the T20Is, the veteran batter has been the lynchpin of the batting lineup for over a decade.

Kohli has been India’s go-to man for the big stages and is known to come into his own in ICC tournaments. In the 2014 and 2016 editions of the T20 World Cup, the Delhi-born cricketer set the stage on fire with his blistering performances and was the Player of the Tournament on both occasions. In the ongoing T20 carnival in Australia as well, the elegant batter was at his prolific best and broke many records in the process.

Here are five records Virat Kohli broke during the T20 World Cup 2022:

5. Most runs in T20I history

Rohit Sharma entered the marquee tournament as the highest run-getter in the T20Is, having amassed 3737 runs in 142 matches. However, Kohli was at a touching distance, just 25 runs away from his compatriot’s record tally.

Chasing 160 in the high-octane clash against the Men in Green, the Indian skipper failed to get going and was dismissed on four runs. However, Kohli was in his elements and played an innings for the ages to take his team across the line. The veteran batter struck 82* runs off 53 deliveries.

During Kohli’s incredible knock, he surpassed Rohit’s tally to become the leading run-getter in T20 Internationals. The ace Indian batter continued his rich vein of form at the T20 extravaganza to become the first cricketer to surpass 4000 runs in the T20Is. He presently stands at 4008 runs in 115 games and has scored at a strike rate of 137.96.
