South Africa were impressive until the last league match but failed to do well overall, which paved way for their elimination. They had five points in as many games and were third in the points table.

In their first game, they shared points with Zimbabwe thanks to a washout. Then, they posted 205 and won by 104 runs against Bangladesh, with Rilee Rossouw hitting his second T20I century. The Temba Bavuma-led side continued their clinical performance to seal the chase of 134 in the last over, courtesy of David Miller and Aiden Markram’s half-centuries.

However, they lost by 33 runs against Pakistan in a chase of 142 in 14 overs. Then the must-win game saw them facing an exit after they failed to chase down the target of 159 against the Netherlands.
