T20 World Cup 2022: Rating batting performances of each team in Super 12

The top 12 nations in the world competed in the Super 12 stage to find a place in the semi-finals. Some of them maintained their dominance on the field, while some learned quite a bit, and a few stuttered in crunch moments. With most of the pitches favouring the batters, it was important for each team to deliver their best and pose a strong challenge to their opposition. The final four teams that have qualified for the semi-finals are India, England, Pakistan and New Zealand. Here is the rating of them along with the rest of the teams on the basis of their batting performances: 12. Zimbabwe – 6 Zimbabwe had a dismal outing in the T20 World Cup 2022, in terms of batting performances, although their bowlers were impressive. The Craig Ervine-led side managed to secure a solitary victory in five games. The first game of the Super 12 witnessed Zimbabwe being involved in a rain-abandoned fixture against South Africa. In their next game, they scored only 130 but managed to win by one run. In another close match against Bangladesh, Sean Ervine was impressive with a knock of 64 off 42 balls, but they fell short by three runs in a chase of 151. In the fourth fixture against the Netherlands, Zimbabwe were bundled out for 117. Then they faced India and conceded 180, but were all-out for 115. 11. Afghanistan – 6.5 The Afghanistan team could not adapt to the surfaces well and they were not helped by two washouts. This resulted in them returning to the team winless in five matches. They were bundled out for 112 in their first league match against England. Then, they could not make a turnaround due to the incessant rain against New Zealand and Ireland. In their fourth game, they posted a total of 144 against Sri Lanka. Then it was Rashid Khan (48* off 23), who helped them to reach the vicinity of Australia’s total of 168, wherein they lost by only four runs. 10. Ireland- 6.5 The Ireland team had an average performance in the T20 World Cup 2022, wherein they failed to cash in crunch moments. In five games, they secured a solitary victory, with one washout. In their first game against Sri Lanka, Ireland posted only 128 on the board and failed to defend the total. They were impressive scoring 157 and winning by five runs against England, with skipper Andy Balbirnie scoring 62 off 47 balls. They faced Australia in their fourth game and could only score 137 in response to 179 by the hosts, but Lorcan Tucker shone bright with 71* off 48 balls. The final game saw them lose by 35 runs in a chase of 185. 9. Sri Lanka- 7 The Sri Lankan team were clinical in a few games but could not be potent enough in the big encounters. The Asia Cup 2022 champions ended the tournament with two wins in five games. They were impressive to chase down the target of 129 against Ireland, with five overs to spare. Then, they did well to post 157 against Australia but could not secure a victory. The Islanders could only score 102 and lost by 65 runs to the Kiwi team. In their penultimate game, the Lankan Lions secured a victory by chasing 145 against Afghanistan, with Dhananjaya de Silva scoring an unbeaten 66 off 42. Then, Pathum Nissanka hit 67 off 45 to pave way for them to post 141 against England but ultimately lost the game. 8. Netherlands- 7 The Netherlands team qualified for the T20 World up 2024 by finishing in fourth place in Group 2 with two wins in five matches. In their first game against Bangladesh, they fell short by just nine runs against Bangladesh in a chase of 144. The Dutch team then could score only 123 in response to India’s 179 and lost by 56 runs. In their next game against Pakistan, the Scott Edwards-led side scored only 91 and failed to defend the score. In their next clash against Zimbabwe, they chased down the target of 118 with two overs to spare, with Max O’Dowd scoring 52. In the final game against South Africa, the experienced batters Tom Cooper (35) and Colin Ackermann (41*) helped them to post 158 and won the game by 13 runs. 7. Bangladesh- 7.5 The Bangladesh team entered into the tournament by losing all four matches in the T20 Tri-series in New Zealand. They finished in the fifth position in the table with two wins in five appearances. They amassed 144 against the Netherlands and won by nine runs. However, the subsequent game witnessed them losing by 104 runs while chasing 205 against South Africa. In the third game against Zimbabwe, Najmul Hossain Shanto scored a terrific 71 to help them post 150 and eventually win by three runs. Then, Litton Das displayed a terrific showing of 60 off 27 but the Tigers lost by five runs against India. The Shakib Al Hasan-led team ended the tournament by posting only 128 against Pakistan. 6. South Africa - 7.5 South Africa were impressive until the last league match but failed to do well overall, which paved way for their elimination. They had five points in as many games and were third in the points table. In their first game, they shared points with Zimbabwe thanks to a washout. Then, they posted 205 and won by 104 runs against Bangladesh, with Rilee Rossouw hitting his second T20I century. The Temba Bavuma-led side continued their clinical performance to seal the chase of 134 in the last over, courtesy of David Miller and Aiden Markram’s half-centuries. However, they lost by 33 runs against Pakistan in a chase of 142 in 14 overs. Then the must-win game saw them facing an exit after they failed to chase down the target of 159 against the Netherlands. 5. Australia - 8 Coming as the favourites to win the tournament, the defending champions Australia failed to seal the semi-finals spot by a whisker. They had seven points under their kitty but fell short of the net run-rate. In the first game against New Zealand, the hosts lost by 89 runs, which was a key reason for their exit. The subsequent game saw them sealing the chase of 158 with more than three overs to spare against Sri Lanka, which was made possible with Marcus Stoinis slamming 59* off 18. They mustered 179 against Ireland with the top contribution of 63 from Aaron Finch and won the game by 42 runs. In the final game of the Super 12 against Afghanistan, the Aaron Finch-led side posted 168 and won by four runs. 4. Pakistan - 8 The Pakistan team were down and out in the first two league matches but made a terrific turnaround to mark their presence in the top four of the T20 World Cup 2022. With three victories, they finished second in the Group 2 points table. Pakistan did well to post 159 against India with Shan Masood and Iftikhar Ahmed scoring a fifty each but lost the game on the last ball. They then could not chase the target of 131 against Zimbabwe due to the pressure of consistent wickets. Then, they chased down the target of 92 against the Netherlands with more than six overs to spare. The Babar Azam-led side posted 185, with Shadab and Iftikhar’s quickfire half-centuries and won by 33 runs against South Africa. In their final game, they chased down 128 against Bangladesh. 3. England - 8.5 One of the finest teams in the tournament, England finished second in the Group 1 points table of the T20 World Cup 2022. With three wins and a washout, they had seven points and eclipsed Australia in terms of net run-rate. The Three Lions chase down the target of 113 easily against Afghanistan in their first game. But they faced a defeat by five runs against Ireland due to slow-paced batting performances. Then, Jos Buttler mustered 73 off 47, which paved way for England to post 179 and win by 20 runs against New Zealand. They kept their nerves to chase down 142 against Sri Lanka in a must-win game. 2. New Zealand - 8.5 New Zealand were one of the most probable teams to reach the semi-finals after they stamped authority in their first game against Australia. They posted 200 and won by 89 runs, with Devon Conway finishing on 92* off 58 balls. After the second game washed out, they slammed 167 against Sri Lanka and won by 65 runs, with Glenn Phillips slamming 104 off 64 balls and continuing their dominance. However, they faced a defeat of 20 runs to England, which certainly brought the high-flying Kiwi team to the ground. In their final game against Ireland, they posted a strong score of 185 and won by 35 runs, which finally confirmed their semi-final qualification. The totals of 160+ were consistent by them, which marks them in the second position. 1. India - 9 India certainly brought their A-game on most occasions in the tournament and ended at the top in their group. They started the tournament with a terrific chase of 160 against Pakistan, courtesy of Virat Kohli’s finest T20I knock of 82* off 53 balls. In the second game, the Rohit Sharma-led side posted 179 against the Netherlands and won by 56 runs. The third game witnessed them only scoring 133 against South Africa and failing to defend the score. Nevertheless, they slammed 184 against Bangladesh and won the game by five runs (DLS), with KL Rahul and Kohli hitting half-centuries. Then, Suryakumar Yadav’s phenomenal 61* of 25 helped India amass 186 against Zimbabwe and they ended up winning by a big margin of 71 runs. With four wins in five games, they topped the points table.
