However, Gaikwad failed to put on a string of impressive performances in the international arena when he was presented with the opportunities. The dashing stroke-maker could only score 135 runs across nine T20I games at a strike rate of 123.85. The Maharashtra batter's ordinary T20I performances put him out of contention for a World Cup spot.

<h3>9. Avesh Khan - Lucknow Super Giants</h3>

Avesh Khan got an international call up on the back of his outstanding performances in IPL 2021 which saw him take 24 wickets in 16 games at an economy rate of 7.67. The 25-year-old did a good job in this year’s IPL too for his new franchise Lucknow Super Giants.
The 25-year-old featured in 13 games for Lucknow and took 18 wickets at an economy of 8.73, which is good enough considering he bowled a lot at the fag end of the innings. However, Avesh was not able to replicate his IPL form for the Men in Blue.
The speedster has played 15 T20Is in 2022 thus far, has 13 wickets to his credit and conceded runs at an alarming rate of 9.10. He was contesting for the fourth seamer's slot with compatriot <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/cricket-news/if-you-think-you-are-perfect-then-dont-come-to-me-arshdeep-singhs-coach-recalls-pacers-interaction-with-wasim-akram/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Arshdeep Singh,</a> who comparatively has done better. The left-arm pacer’s rise cost Avesh a ticket to Australia.

<h3>8. Umran Malik - Sunrisers Hyderabad</h3>

Umran Malik is one of the most exciting prospects in the Indian T20 circuit right now. The 22-year-old caught everyone’s eye when he clocked speeds of over 150 kmph consistently in IPL 2021. He was retained by <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/srh-sunrisers-hyderabad/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sunrisers Hyderabad</a> for the 2022 season and did well with the ball.
The speedster rattled batters with his rapid pace and took 22 wickets in 14 matches and also bagged the Emerging Player of the Season award. Umran’s superb outing for SRH earned him an international call up but the Srinagar-born could not make a mark with his performances.
Umran played three games and managed to take two wickets at a high economy of 12.44. The express pacer has fiery pace but is still a work-in-progress in terms of line and length.

<h3>7. Daniel Sams - Mumbai Indians</h3>

Daniel Sams has been a proven performer in the T20 circuit. The five-time IPL champions <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/mi-mumbai-indians/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mumbai Indians</a> roped in the 29-year-old for the IPL 2022 season and he did a decent job with the ball. He featured in 11 games and took 13 wickets at an economy of 8.81.
The left-arm pacer is a wily bowler and has a lot of variations up his sleeve. Besides his bowling exploits, Sams is a fierce striker too, and showed his power hitting ability in the Hundred 2022. In nine games for Trent rockets, the bowling allrounder smashed 105 runs at a dazzling strike rate of 190.90. On the bowling front, he also took seven wickets but at a high economy of 10.20.
Sams has shown his class in T20 tournaments around the world but wasn't included in the star-studded Australian squad for the T20 World Cup 2022. 
<h3>6. Shikhar Dhawan - Punjab Kings</h3>

The southpaw has accumulated a total of 6244 runs in 206 games at a strike rate of 126.35.
Dhawan had an excellent outing for the Punjab Kings in IPL 2022 as he scored 460 runs at a strike rate of 122.67. The ace batter was a rock at the top of the order and was excellent in shepherding the innings for his side. The India batter was tasked to hold the innings together in a power-packed Punjab line-up and he did it really well.
Despite his consistent performances in IPL, Dhawan has failed to make a comeback to India’s T20 setup. The 36-year-old is still a preferred opener in 50-overs cricket for India but KL Rahul’s exponential rise in the shortest format has kept the 36-year-old out of the side.

<h3>5. Kuldeep Yadav - Delhi Capitals&nbsp;</h3>

Kuldeep Yadav had an impeccable outing for his new franchise - Delhi Capitals in this year’s IPL. The left-arm wrist spinner was the major strike force for the Delhi franchise in the middle overs as he bamboozled batters with his variations.
The 27-year-old took 21 wickets in 14 games at an economy of 8.44. Kuldeep is a genuine wicket-taker and the big grounds in Australia would have aided his aggressive style of bowling. However, with <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/yuzvendra-chahal-has-found-a-method-to-rebuild-himself-brad-hogg/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Yuzvendra Chahal</a> being India's number one spinner, there was high competition for the second spinner's slot and the wrist spinner fell behind the pecking order.
Kuldeep missed a couple of T20I tours due to injury and got only one T20I game in the build up to the T20 World Cup 2022. Though he got a three-wicket haul in that lone game against the West Indies, the solid performances of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravi Bishnoi have kept Kuldeep out of the reckoning. Finally, It was Ashwin who made the cut in the final 15-member India squad for the global tournament.

<h3>4. Sanju Samson - Rajasthan Royals</h3>

Samson was in the reckoning for a T20 World Cup spot and did fairly well for the Men in Blue this year. He featured in six T20Is and scored 179 runs at a strike rate of 158.41. However, the flamboyant batter was not selected in India's squad for the global event.
The Kerala batter was contesting for a backup batter slot with Deepak Hooda being the primary contender. Deepak offers flexibility to bat at any position and is quite handy with his off-spin too. This tilted the balance in favour of Hooda and he was selected ahead of Samson.

<h3>3. Faf du Plessis - Royal Challengers Bangalore</h3>

Du Plessis was handed over the reins of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2022 season and the veteran player led the way with the bat amassing 468 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of 127.52. Despite his incredible outing, the Pretoria born was not included in South Africa's T20 World cup squad.
Du Plessis also has a great record for his national side. In the 50 T20Is that he has played thus far, the ace batter has racked up 1528 runs at a strike rate of 134.39. However, the former South African skipper has not been considered in the white-ball format ever since he retired from the longest format of the game last year. 
<h3>2. Mohammed Shami - Gujarat Titans</h3>

The veteran pacer took 20 wickets in 16 games at an economy of 8.00 and was also the highest wicket-taker in the powerplay this year with 11 wickets to his name. Despite a stellar IPL 2022, Shami was not included in the Indian T20 set-up.
Shami has been carrying the mantle of the Indian bowling attack along with Jasprit Bumrah in Tests and 50-overs cricket. However, he has not been picked for the national side in the shortest format since the last year’s World Cup fiasco. For the upcoming T20 extravaganza, the 32-year-old could only make it to the list of stand-by players.

Andre Russell is undoubtedly one of the best allrounders in the T20 circuit at the moment. The 34-year-old has been a legend of the game in the shortest format and this year’s IPL was an example of how good the Jamaica-born is.
Russell played in 14 games for the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/kkr-kolkata-knight-riders/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kolkata Knight Riders</a> and piled up 335 runs at an outstanding strike rate of 174.48. On the bowling front, he took 17 wickets for his side. The veteran allrounder has been a destructor with the bat and his batting might was also on display in the recently culminated The Hundred competition too.
Russell played six games for Manchester Originals and scored 148 runs at a strike rate of 168.18. Despite Russell’s pedigree, he failed to break into the West Indies team for the upcoming global event. 
On his notable absence CWI chief selector Desmond Haynes said “We're still not convinced yet, he's not performing as well as we would like to see him in the competition. I think in the situation with Andre Russell, we've just decided to move on, and look for someone who's in form, and doing well in the T20 format."
