Team India's T20 World Cup 2016 squad members: Where are they now?
Only five Indian players from the T20 World Cup 2016 squad are set to feature in the upcoming 2022 T20 World Cup.
11. Ravichandran Ashwin
Ashwin had a dream year in the form of 2016 for which he earned the prestigious ICC Cricketer of the Year award - only the third Indian cricketer after Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar to bag the feat. But his performances in the 2016 T20 World Cup were not up to the expectations. He took four wickets in five matches at an economy rate of 7.66 and bowled only two overs in the semi-final.
The bowling allrounder dominated red-ball cricket post the 2016 T20 World Cup. He took 27 wickets in just three Test matches, including a career-best seven for 59 in an innings, during New Zealand's tour of India in 2016. He continued that form in 2017 and was placed in the World Test XI of that year by the ICC.
In October 2019, while playing in his 66th Test match, Ashwin became the joint-fastest bowler, alongside Muttiah Muralitharan, to take 350 Test wickets.
The right-arm spinner lost his place in the T20I squad in mid-2017 but made his return to the shortest format in 2021. He was part of the 2022 Asia Cup and is also included in the squad for the upcoming 2022 T20 World Cup. Ashwin has been a consistent performer in IPL and featured for the Rajasthan Royals in the 2022 edition.
