Team India's T20 World Cup 2016 squad members: Where are they now?
Only five Indian players from the T20 World Cup 2016 squad are set to feature in the upcoming 2022 T20 World Cup.
5. Shikhar Dhawan
The 36-year-old left-handed opener fared poorly in the 2016 T20 World Cup despite playing in the opening four matches. He was India's leading run-scorer during the 2015 ODI Word Cup and fans' expectations were very high from him leading into the 2016 T20 World Cup.
But Dhawan scored only 43 runs in four matches at an average of 10.75 and at a poor strike rate of 82.69 and as a result, Ajinkya Rahane replaced him in the semi-final clash against the West Indies.
Dhawan retained his form next year and was the leading run-scorer in the 2017 Champions Trophy. Dhawan has been a consistent performer in ODI cricket but lost his place in Test cricket in 2018. Now it's more than 13 months since he last played T20I cricket for India but remains an integral part of the current ODI squad.
His latest international appearance came during India's three-match ODI tour to Zimbabwe in August 2022. He scored 154 runs in three matches but had a poor strike rate of 76.23. Dhawan was excellent in the IPL 2022 season with Punjab Kings where he scored 460 runs at a strike rate of 122.66 but it was not enough for him to make a comeback in the T20I set-up.
