9. Daryl Mitchell

Daryl Mitchell became the most successful New Zealand Test batter of 2022. Notching up 683 runs in 11 innings of seven matches in the calendar year, he proved his mettle. In June 2022, the Kiwi team toured England for a three-match Test series. The tournament turned out to be a nightmare for the Kiwis as the hosts whitewashed them with their spunky performances.

However, one thing that went the right way for New Zealand was their middle-order Test batter Mitchell exuding confidence with his bat and ending up as the leading run-scorer with 538 runs in six innings of three matches. However, after the impressive Test series in England, Mitchell looked ineffective against Babar Azam and his men in Pakistan.

But during England’s tour of New Zealand in February 2023, the Black Caps levelled the two-match series by defeating the visitors in the second Test by a tiny margin of one run. In New Zealand’s crucial victory, Mitchell anchored the team with his 54-run innings.

After the England series, Tim Southee and his men defeated Sri Lanka in a two-match Test competition at home, and this time again, Mitchell played his part magnificently, scoring 200 runs in three innings of two Tests.
