7. Sanath Jayasuriya
Sri Lanka’s former opener Sanath Jayasuriya used to instill fear in the hearts of bowlers with his aggressive batting skills during his playing days. He is the second-leading run-scorer for Sri Lanka with 13364 runs in 429 innings of 441 one-day matches, at a strike rate of 91.25.
Jayasuriya registered a lot of cricketing milestones on his name in his vast 22-year career. One of the greatest batting records he owns is that he is the best chaser for Sri Lanka in ODIs. Accumulating 3633 runs in 103 innings of 107 ODIs at a strike rate of 97.00, he is the leading run-scorer for Sri Lanka in run chases.
In July 2006, he played an extraordinary knock of 152 off 99 in Leeds and took his team to an eight-wicket triumph. The game is special for Sri Lanka cricket fans as the left-handed batter’s innings helped Sri Lanka achieve a total of 322 in just 37.3 overs. With this win, Sri Lanka whitewashed England in the five-match ODI series and scripted history.
