<p>In the fifth match of the ODI World Cup 2023, when India were tasked to chase 200 by Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Indian cricket team supporters were expecting their side to pull off the target easily but the matter worsened when their key batters Ishan Kishan, Rohit Sharma, and Shreyas Iyer went back to the pavilion without scoring any runs.</p>
<p>At the score of two, India lost three batters, and from there, the responsibility was on Virat Kohli and KL Rahul to help India rescue from the crisis. Appearing in 238 ODIs, he scored 8648 runs in 237 innings at an average of 41.37 in his 16-year international career. Haynes used to be the best for the Windies team while chasing targets until 1994.</p>
<p>The right-handed opener scored 3321 runs with four tons and six fifties in 91 ODIs while following totals. In Australia’s tour of the West Indies in 1984, Haynes showcased his batting mettle in the first ODI played in Albion. The star batter played an unbeaten 133-run knock and helped his team pull off 232 runs.</p>

<p>Another Windies batter who holds an incredible record in ODI in chases is the legend Brian Lara. The southpaw amassed 10405 runs in 289 innings of 299 matches in which he racked up 3498 runs with seven centuries and 21 fifties in 78 innings of 83 matches while batting in the second innings.</p>
<p>In November 1993, he scored a scintillating century against <strong><a href="https://www.crictracker.com/cricket-teams/pakistan/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pakistan</a></strong> in the final held in Sharjah. Lara batted as an opener with his senior Desmond Haynes and hit 153 runs off 143 deliveries. Riding on his amazing innings, the Caribbean side successfully chased down a huge score of 285 with six wickets in hand.</p>
<p>After two and a half years, the iconic batter showcased his mettle in Port of Spain. Against New Zealand, the two-time World Cup champions were tasked to chase only 220 but the home side lost their openers Stuart Williams and Shivnarine Chanderpaul early at a score of six. Accumulating 3633 runs in 103 innings of 107 ODIs at a strike rate of 97.00, he is the leading run-scorer for Sri Lanka in run chases.</p>
<p>In July 2006, he played an extraordinary knock of 152 off 99 in Leeds and took his team to an eight-wicket triumph. The game is special for Sri Lanka cricket fans as the left-handed batter’s innings helped Sri Lanka achieve a total of 322 in just 37.3 overs. <p>Adam Gilchrist was known for fierce batting skills in all forms of cricket and during his 12-year career, he won three World Cups for Australia. His exceptional 149-run knock off 104 deliveries against Sri Lanka in the World Cup 2007 still brings cheers to the faces of Aussie cricket supporters.</p>
<p>While chasing targets, Gilchrist used to be one of the best batters and his batting numbers corroborate this fact. The left-handed Aussie player scored 3750 runs in 90 innings of 95 ODIs at a magnificent strike rate of 102.76 while batting second for his side. <p>The legendary Protea also ended his one-day career as the best chaser for his national side, scoring 3950 runs in 100 innings of 110 matches at an average of 56.42. Kallis’s best one-day score came against the West Indies in February 2004 in Johannesburg while chasing 305.</p>
<p>The right-handed batter chipped in 139 runs off 142 balls in his team’s four-wicket win.
