MS Dhoni did not have a great time with the bat leading up to the 2011 ODI World Cup final against Sri Lanka at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. However, he showed his class when it mattered the most by playing one of the best knocks in the history of World Cup finals. After India lost two quick wickets in their pursuit of a 275-run target, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli added an important 83-run partnership to resurrect the innings. However, a lot of work was still left to be done when Kohli was dismissed.

Dhoni promoted himself to No. 5 ahead of the in-form Yuvraj Singh and showed aggressive intent with the willow. After Gambhir was dismissed for a well-compiled 97, Dhoni took India to victory with Yuvraj for company. Dhoni finished the game in style as he hit a six over long-on off Nuwan Kulasekara's bowling as India won the ODI World Cup after 28 years. The Jharkhand cricketer remained unbeaten on 91 off 79 balls, hitting eight fours and two sixes.
