Former England batter Chris Broad could not go big for England but his son Stuart Broad achieved a lot of success for the nation. In 2023, Broad announced his retirement from international cricket and concluded his Test career as the second-highest wicket-taker with 604 scalps in 309 innings of 167 matches.

Chris Broad participated in international matches as a match referee in several games since 2003. In August 2020, he was seen in the match referee box during the first Test between Pakistan and England at the Old Trafford Ground. As COVID-19 was prevalent in those days, the International Cricket Council (ICC) relaxed its rule of having a neutral match referee.

In the second innings of the game, Stuart dismissed Yasir Shah and used foul language against him. Noting his son’s misbehaviour, senior Broad imposed a 15% fine on him. Along with the fine, Stuart also received a demerit point.
