Certain top-drawer batters have amassed truckloads of runs in ODIs in a single year and etched their names in history books.
1. Sachin Tendulkar (1894 runs in 1998)
Sachin Tendulkar in his glorious career spanning 24 years, has broken heaps and heaps of records and also created many. In 1998 he broke his own record of most runs in One-day Internationals in a calendar year, racking up 1894 runs in 34 games at an average of 65.31. The insane tally is still the most runs in the 50-over format in a single year.
In the Coca-Cola Cup 1998, a tri-nation consisting of India, Australia, and New Zealand, Sachin took bowling attacks to the cleaners and notched up a staggering tally of 435 runs in just five games at an average of 87.00. In the tri-series final against Steve Waugh & co., he struck a blistering knock of 134 runs off 131 balls to help his team get over the line.
Sachin was against India’s star with the bat in the Coca-Cola Champions Trophy (tri-series featuring India, Zimbabwe, and Sri Lanka), the legendary cricketer hammered 274 runs in five games at an average of 91.33. Riding on his stunning batting displays, the Men in Blue clinched the trophy.
