2. 149 runs off 225 balls vs England, 1st Test, Edgbaston, 2018

India faced England in the first game of the five-match Test series at Edgbaston in August 2018. After opting to bat, the Three Lions posted 287 runs in their first innings courtesy of half-centuries from skipper Joe Root (80 runs off 156 balls) and Jonny Bairstow (70 runs off 88 balls).

India were off to a solid start with 50 for no loss. But they then suffered a mini-collapse losing three wickets for just nine runs. Virat Kohli was at the crease with Ajinkya Rahane. Kohli had failed miserably on the last England tour as he had merely managed 134 runs in five Tests. Given his previous failures, it was a big challenge for him with the Men in Blue struggling at 59 for 3 and opposition bowlers dictating terms. 

But the star batter rose to the occasion and what followed was simply remarkable. Wickets tumbled at one end but Kohli stood firm at the other end and notched up an incredible knock of 149 runs off 225 deliveries which consisted of 22 fours and one sixes.
