4. KKR vs PWI, Match 70, 2012
Kolkata Knight Riders took the stage alongside Pune Warriors India for the 70th match of the 2012 season of the lucrative T20 tournament. KKR won the toss and decided to bat first. Gambhir & co. did not have a great start and were in a spot of bother at 40 for 2 in the 9th over. Brendon McCullum was struggling to get going at one end which did not help either.
Shakib arrived at the crease and took the attack to the opposition right from the get-go. He played a blistering knock of 42 runs off 30 deliveries to stage KKR’s comeback. Riding on the southpaw’s impactful innings, Kolkata posted a fighting total of 136 runs on the board.
Defending 136, KKR’s bowlers fired in unison and so did Shakib. The left-arm off-spinner picked two wickets while giving away just 18 runs in his full quota of four overs. Kolkata’s lion-hearted bowling display ensured that Pune could only manage 102 runs in 20 overs. Shakib was given the Player of the Match award for his vital contributions with both bat and ball.
