3. KKR vs RCB, Match 49, 2014
Kolkata Knight Riders clashed with Royal Challengers Bangalore at Eden Gardens in the 49th match of IPL 2014. After being put into bat, KKR had an awful start and lost three wickets inside seven overs with 56 runs on the board. Gambhir & co. needed someone to take them out of the precarious situation.
Shakib joined Robin Uthappa (83 runs off 51 deliveries) at the crease and knocked the winds out of Bangalore’s sails. The duo stitched an exceptional 121-run stand in 70 deliveries to help the team post a daunting 195 runs on the board. The Bangladesh all-rounder scored 60 runs off just 38 deliveries, which comprised five fours and three sixes.
Defending 195, Sunil Narine led KKR’s charge with the ball and bagged four wickets while conceding only 20 runs. Shakib also played his part, stemming the flow of runs to ensure Virat Kohli & co. do not run away with the game. The Magura-born conceded just 27 runs in his four overs. RCB were kept down to 165 and Kolkata won the game comprehensively by 30 runs.
