Speaking of the 2015 World Cup, Bangladesh qualified for the knockouts after beating England, at the Adelaide Oval, in the group stage. England skipper Eoin Morgan won the toss and invited Mashrafe Mortaza and his men to bat first in the contest. The Bangla side had a terrible start as they lost their openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes cheaply.

The veteran Mahmudullah stepped up in this game and stitched important partnerships with the top-order batter Soumya Sarkar and the wicketkeeper batter Mushfiqur Rahim to bring his team back into the match. Mahmudullah went on to score a century while Rahim notched up 89 off 77. Riding on the sensational performances of both players, Bangladesh gave a target of 276 to England.

The Bangla bowlers defended the total successfully as they kept on picking up wickets in intervals. After the fall of six wickets, Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes displayed valour with their rapid knocks of 65 (52) and unbeaten 42 (40) respectively but after the wicketkeeper batter’s scalp, things fell apart for England as their lower-order batters failed to complete the chase after getting dismissed on 260.

In this sensational 15-run triumph, Rubel Hossain played an instrumental role with the ball as he picked up a four-wicket haul in his 9.3-over spell. Mahmudullah received the Player of the Match award for producing 103-run innings from his bat off 138 deliveries.
