The year 2024 saw some amazing performances from cricketers. While some veterans continued to mesmerise the cricket fraternity with their exploits, a plethora of talented youngsters showed that the future of the sport is in good hands.

Most of the focus in international cricket this year was on the T20 format because of the World Cup which took place in June in West Indies and USA. After the marquee event concluded, the attention shifted to the World Test Championship (WTC) as the 2023-25 cycle has reached its business end. The ODIs took a backseat this year but it will hog the limelight over the next few months, with the Champions Trophy scheduled to be held in February-March.

In this article, we take a look at cricketers who scored the most number of runs across formats in international cricket.

Joe Root is the only player in the list who did not play a single limited-overs fixture in international cricket in 2024. All his runs came in the longest format of the game, where he went on to achieve several incredible feats.

The right-handed batter scored a whopping 1556 runs from 31 innings in Test cricket. In October, Root surpassed Alastair Cook to become England's highest run-getter of all time. Root notched up an impressive tally of six centuries and five half-centuries in 2024.
