Indian cricket has been through many transformations over the years and during this brief span, the former India legend Sachin Tendulkar shouldered a gazillion dreams of his fans. After Sachin bid adieu to international cricket, fans and experts alike, often debated on who would be the next biggest thing who would hold the baton passed by the Master Blaster with impeccable grace and commanding authority.

However, as time slipped like a sand clock, one more aspect came to the fore. Apart from being a demigod and youth icon, Tendulkar always made a point to give back to society with his philanthropic efforts. Consequently, he became a national icon both on and off the field. Hence, away from cricket, people also were made to ponder, which next big cricket star would take a stand for various drawbacks persisting in the society and give back to the needy people just like Tendulkar did.

Today, on November 5, 1988, Team India’s modern-day legend, Virat Kohli was born. He not only carried the baton with a liquid grace but also made his impact away from the field through his commendable philanthropic activities through the Virat Kohli Foundation.

As Kohli turned 36 years old today, let us peep into his lesser-known side, only on Crictracker:

Over the years, India’s batting giant has made conscious efforts for various social causes through his Virat Kohli foundation. Notably, Kohli started the foundation back in 2013. He took note of the educational and sports-related challenges being faced by poor people.

But the most incredible part about him is the fact that he went a notch up by not just caring about humans but also being sympathetic towards animals as well. The youth icon has tirelessly worked for stray animals. Through his foundation, he ensured to provide shelters to the needy animals along with providing ample medical care as well.

4. Transformation through Nutrition

Virat Kohli is a man with a golden heart and it can be proved by the fact that due to visiting and spending time with children from poor families, he decided to give back something to society, especially to the unprivileged children, who were the prime reason why his foundation came into existence. Speaking of his philanthropy works for children, he aimed and distributed fortified food to nearly 5000 kids.

Notably, these children were suffering from malnutrition. Working towards his goal for the young kids, he targeted the age group of kids as small as six months to six years old. Hence this speaks volumes about his caring persona apart from being a cricket legend in his own right.

3. Development Program for Athletes

Being an Athlete himself, it came naturally to the batting maestro to not only focus on cricket but also observe athletes from other games as well. Having been trained from his younger days, Virat Kohli was inclined towards young athletes who are still in their grooming stage and inching closer to fulfilling their Indian dreams. Through his foundation, Virat Kohli has supported young athletes by providing them with top-class food and nutritional assistance.

Being known as one of the fittest athletes in the cricket world, Kohli paid attention to the basic needs of an athlete apart from their usual training practices, which eventually culminated in making a legend. Hence, the Katni-born not only provides vital nutritional requirements to the young athletes but also helps out in executing their training along with covering their travel expenses. Furthermore, Kohli also ensures that the athletes supported by him should also receive top professional guidance in the form of top coaches for the young players.

2. UNICEF’s Every Child Alive Campaign

Virat Kohli being a youth icon, is often admired not just in India but also globally. Hence, the renowned United Nations Organization (UNO) often look for such iconic personalities, who radiate a special aura along with inspiring people by raising awareness about different social causes at the international level. Today, Kohli is a household name and one of the top athletes on the global map.

Hence, UNO took no time in roping Kohli for their worldwide initiatives towards child welfare in the form of the #EveryChildAlive campaign. Virat Kohli in collaboration with the UNICEF (United Nations Children Emergency Fund), has worked in raising awareness towards the healthcare issues of children. Notably, he worked with a renowned organization to raise awareness about the suffering of infants in a bid to reduce the mortality rate that mothers around the world face.

Virat Kohli not only works alone but also takes the help of his wife and actress Anushka Sharma from time to time to extend his social work to new horizons. Hence it comes as no surprise that Kohli also cares about the environment we dwell in. The India batting stalwart undertook a unique initiative of providing "solar lamps" to needy children who want to study and achieve their dreams in rural areas.

However, electricity availability often becomes a major problem which hinders the educational growth of a child. Hence not being a sharp brain on the cricket field, Kohli also came up with his interesting initiative of providing solar lamps to the rural kids. The initiative was carried out as the traditional coal lamps often caused pollution and related health hazards affecting young children. Therefore, Kohli took the onus on himself to ensure they study properly without using dangerous modes or studying in difficult places which often risk the health of young kids in villages.
