While Indian fans are still recovering from the heartbreak in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, the next challenge awaits them as the team will play a multi-format series against West Indies in July. India were comprehensively outsmarted by the Australians in all departments in the WTC final and had to suffer a staggering 209-run defeat.

Following a short off-season, they are set to face the West Indian challenge. The upcoming India tour will feature two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squads for the Tests and the ODIs on Friday, June 23 and there were some surprise omissions as well as some eyebrow-raising picks.

Here are the three players who deserved to a part of the Test squad:

While many would not agree with this pick, having Cheteshwar Pujara in the Test team goes a long way. Although Pujara could not do much against the mighty Australians in the WTC final, the truth is that he remains one of the most accomplished red-ball players in the Indian Team currently.

He has been grinding his skills to perfection in county cricket and possesses exceptional defensive skills, the best among the current lot of cricketers in India. Moreover, his experience is another add-on that the team receives if he is present in the squad.

Pujara needs backing from the management and the series against West Indies could have been the perfect stage for him to find his groove. The modern-day Wall is a must-have whenever he is available for the national team.
