South Africa weren’t considered the favourites to win this World Cup before the start of this competition. The Proteas have performed exceptionally thus far in this tournament, clinching two victories off their two outings. As a batting unit, they have emerged as one of the most formidable sides in the competition.

Their bowlers have also justified their role in this competition, grabbing 20 wickets in their two matches. In the maiden contest against Sri Lanka, the Protea bowlers got an enormous total of 428 runs to defend. The excellent work of the batters also boosted the confidence of the bowlers.

The bowlers wrapped up the 1996 champions on 326 and gave a powerful message to other teams, clinching a 102-run win. Gerald Coetzee became the leading wicket-taker in this game, bagging three wickets. Marco Jansen also picked up Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera early and helped the Proteas have a command in this match.
