The WPL 2024 auction took place recently in Mumbai on December 9. There were 165 players up for grabs. The five WPL franchises picked several players and there were several eye-raising picks.
There were 30 spots to be filled and some of the players got eye-watering bids. On the other hand, players like Chamari Atapattu and Deandra Dottin were not picked by the teams which came as a surprise to many.
There were also players for whom multiple franchises entered a bidding war and the paddle was raised multiple times in an effort to bring the player into their fold. In this piece, we take a look at 3 such cricketers on whom multiple franchises placed bids.

1. Shabnim Ismail
South African pacer Shabnim Ismail is by far one of the fastest bowlers in Women’s cricket. She was part of the UP Warriors team in the inaugural WPL 2023 tournament. In 113 T20Is, Ismail has 123 wickets with a best of 5/12 at an economy of 5.77. She also has 191 wickets in 113 WODIs.
This time around, when Shabnim Ismail’s name came up for bidding, three franchises got into a war. Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Giants, and Royal Challengers Bangalore went paddle-raising for the South African pacer. In the end, Mumbai Indians won out with a bid of INR 1.20 crores.
