The much-awaited Players Auction of Women’s Premier League 2023 concluded on February 13, 2023. For the auction watchers, the event was a treat to their eyes as they witnessed some intense bidding battles among the franchises. All this was possible due to the participation of marquee players in the auction. In the first two rounds of the auction, the franchises remained alert and picked some recent-performing names at humongous prices.
In the WPL auction, it was witnessed that all-rounders stole the show as they became favourites for franchises and received a massive amount. However, batters too gave stiff competition to all-rounders as the franchises didn’t hesitate to splurge money on some of the well-known and recent-performing batters. Among the top five purchases at the event, there are three all-rounders and two batters. Now after reciving hefty prices in the auction, these five names will be elated to deliver their best to their respective teams.

5. Jemimah Rodrigues
Jemimah Rodrigues has proven herself as a middle-order batter for India with her brilliant batting performance. In 2022, she scored 463 runs with three fifties in 20 games at a strike rate of 121.84. Riding on her superb show in the Asia Cup 2022-23, India Women won their seventh title. The 22-year-old emerged as the top run-scorer in the tournament with 217 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 135.62.
Along with 408 players, Rodrigues also participated in the WPL Players Auction with her reserve price of INR 50 lakh. For the youngster, Delhi Capitals spent a whopping price of INR 2.2 crore to acquire her services in the upcoming competition. DC will now expect her to reinforce their batting line-up in the inaugural season along with other names such as Meg Lanning, Shefali Verma, and Laura Harris.
In the tournament, her previous league experience will also help her to deliver the best for the team. The right-handed batter has played a lot of cricket in the Women’s Big Bash League. In the seventh edition of the marquee T20 tournament, she displayed her class on the fast surfaces of Australia. Playing for Melbourne Renegades, the dynamic India player hit 333 runs in 13 contests at a strike rate of 116.43.
