WPL 2023: 5 Most Expensive Players in WPL Auction

1. Smriti Mandhana

In women’s international cricket, Smriti Mandhana is one of the best batters in all three formats. Her record gets better in WT20Is as she has scored 2,651 runs with 20 half-centuries in 112 matches, at a strike rate of 123.13. In 2022, she looked exceptional smashing 594 runs with five half-centuries in 23 matches at a fine strike rate of 133.48.

Going through her impressive international numbers, there were predictions that she will attract the franchises in the 2023 Player Auction of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). At the event, the same happened as her name launched a bidding battle between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). In the end, RCB emerged victorious as they signed Mandhana at a hefty amount of INR 3.4 crore. Her starting price was INR 50 lakh.

Now after becoming the most expensive player in the auction, she will have to justify her amount. Her franchise RCB will expect her to deliver explosive starts to them as an ideal opener. Noting her decent captaincy record in the Women’s T20 Challenge, the team might also appoint her as their skipper for the maiden season. In the 2020 edition of the WT20 Challenge, she led IPL Trailblazers and won the title with her leadership skills.
