The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will hold the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) from March 4, 2023, to March 26, 2023. The competition will be played among five teams and it is expected that the tournament will raise the standard of women’s cricket.

Last year, former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly raised the excitement level of women’s cricket supporters with his statement that the WPL will be conducted in 2023. This year, BCCI announced the franchises and dates of the first edition of the tournament and brought cheers to the faces of fans.

Before the tournament, cricketers will participate in the Player Auction at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai on February 13, 2023. At the colossal event, fans will witness 409 players going under the hammer, of which 246 are Indians and 163 are foreigners. However, among these players, some may not get picked at the auction due to their exorbitant base prices.

Discussing further, here are five players who have kept their base prices more and could've kept less:

Jahanara Alam is active in international women’s cricket since 2012 and she is a vital cog in the Bangladesh team due to her immense experience. With her impressive bowling skills, she has won a lot of games for the Bangladesh team in the limited-over formats of the sport.

In Women’s One-Day Internationals (WODIs), she has grabbed 46 wickets for her nation in 50 matches at an economy of 4.16. Talking about her WT20I career, the veteran has not been so effective as she has clinched only 57 scalps in 75 contests at an economy of 5.49.

This February, the Bangla Tigress will enter the Player Auction of WPL at her basic price of INR 30 lakh. Noting her base amount, the bidders might not raise their bidding paddles as they might fetch other foreign pacers at low prices who boast of more T20 league experience.
