WPL 2023: 5 uncapped players on whom franchises might spend huge bucks in auction

For the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) next month, the five franchises are ready to splurge at the Player Auction on February 13, 2023. For marquee players such as Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, Ellyse Perry, and Sophie Devine, grabbing huge money at the event won’t be a big deal as their numbers and experience make their profiles strong.

Apart from these names, some uncapped players may also start a bidding war among the franchises. In the recently concluded ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup, some teenagers displayed their remarkable potential with their solid performances.

At the WPL Player Auction, they may attract huge bids from buyers before making their women’s international debuts. Besides top performers from the recent mega ICC event, some uncapped players may also get fetched at enormous prices due to their valuable experience in domestic cricket.

On that note, here are five uncapped who are favourites to receive huge money at WPL Player Auction:

5. Laura Harris

Laura Harris hasn’t received Australia Women’s national cap yet but the 32-year-old is a reliable face in domestic cricket. In the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), Harris has a glorifying record as she has scored 1,061 runs for Brisbane Heat Women (BHW) in 85 innings of 107 matches at a phenomenal strike rate of 155.80. 

In the last edition of the tournament, she hit 270 runs in 16 games at a stunning strike rate of 204.54. The veteran also showcased her power-hitting ability against Hobart Hurricanes Women with her fiery fifty. Noting her current form and recent numbers, the franchise in the WPL auction may not hesitate to pick her up at a big amount.

Playing as a lower middle-order batter, she can don the role of a match-finisher. Using her destructive batting attitude against bowlers, Harris has won a lot of games for her domestic sides Queensland Women and Brisbane Heat Women.
