WPL 2023: 5 uncapped players to look out for
These uncapped players have outclassed their opponents in their recent games. In the maiden WPL edition, they will endeavour to continue their form for their franchises.
4. Jasia Akhtar
Jasia Akhtar is an experienced face in domestic cricket. From 2014-21, she was a part of Punjab and played a lot of match-winning knocks with her bat. Since 2021, she is an integral member of Rajasthan as the team has assigned her the responsibility of an opener after noting her aggressive batting talent.
At the WPL auction, she became a part of Delhi Capitals (DC) at her base price of INR 20 lakh. With this deal, Akhtar became the first Jammu & Kashmir cricketer to get picked at the WPL auction. Her recent batting figures helped her to grab the attention of franchise owners and now, in the DC squad, she could be seen opening innings with stylish India batter Shafali Verma.
In the Senior Women’s T20 Challenger Trophy 2022-23, Akhtar became the fourth-leading run-scorer hitting 114 runs with a fifty in four matches, at an impressive strike rate of 132.55. Earlier in the Senior Women’s One-Day Trophy 2021-22, she scored 201 runs with a century in five games and became the leading run-getter for her team.
