Gujarat Giants (GG) ended at the bottom of the points table with only two wins in eight matches in the maiden WPL season. Beth Mooney, the captain of the team, picked up a calf injury in the inaugural game against Mumbai Indians (MI) and had to be ruled out of the tournament. In the skipper’s unavailability, it was expected of the senior players to step up and drive the team ahead.
Annabel Sutherland, with an experience of more than 30 international matches for Australia, was expected to bring all her learnings to the fore and play a crucial role in the team's conduct. However, the results seemed to be far from expectations.
The young Aussie got four games for Gujarat but failed to put her best foot forward. Notching up only 28 runs in four matches at a dismal strike rate of 77.77, she did nothing to better her team’s poor show in the tournament. Witnessing her below-par performance in four matches, the team management didn't accommodate her in the playing XI for the last three games.
