With a timely comeback after an ordinary inception in WPL 2023, UP Warriorz ended up in the third position in the colossal T20 event. At various points during their campaign, marquee players such as Alyssa Healy, Tahlia McGrath, Grace Harris and Sophie Ecclestone stood and delivered to stop their caravan from breaking down.
On the downside, some players, despite trying hard, couldn't yield desired results and thus failed to leave a mark for the side in the tournament. Devika Vaidya, who was expected to turn up against opponents as she is familiar with Indian conditions, came out as one of the underperformers for Warriorz.
Taking note of her past numbers, UPW chose Vaidya over Shweta Sehrawat to open the innings with captain Healy. Realising her role in the squad, the dashing skipper made it to the list of top scorers but Vaidya was unsuccessful in complementing her as an opening partner. The 25-year-old concluded the tournament with just 77 runs in seven matches at a strike rate of 96.25. Such a dismal outing led to her exclusion from the playing XI in the all-important playoff clash against Mumbai Indians.
