WPL 2023: Three capped players who might go unsold at auction

The much-awaited player auction for the inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League is upon us. The WPL  auction 2023 will take place on Monday, February 13 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. A total of 409 players will go under the hammer, of which 202 are capped and 199 uncapped. Further, eight cricketers from the associate countries will feature at the marquee event. 

However, with a squad limit of 18 players, only a maximum of 90 cricketers will be able to take home WPL contracts. The franchises will likely go all blazing for players who have been magnificent in the international arena and do away with the rest. Let us look at the capped players who might not find any bidders at the auction.

Here are three capped players who might go unsold at the WPL auction:

3. Amy Hunter

Amy Hunter is one of the exciting prospects in Ireland’s cricketing circles. She has featured in 11 T20Is and scored 294 runs at a strike rate of 89.90. Talking about the shortest format, the 17-year-old has scored 216 runs in 13 matches at an average of 21.60.

Hunter has taken the attack to the opposition right from the get-go and provided her side with brisk starts. The Irish batter put up an exhibition of her flamboyant stroke play in the warm-up game of the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup against Australia and smashed 26 runs off 14 deliveries.

Though Hunter has shown glimpses of brilliance in the international area, she is thin on experience when it comes to playing on big stages. With many top-quality opening batters up for grabs at the WPL 2023 auction, the youngster might not find a buyer at the marquee event.
