UP Warriorz (UPW) played an aggressive brand of cricket under their captain Alyssa Healy in the maiden edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and qualified for the playoffs. In the WPL 2024 auction, they spent INR 2.10 crore and made some good purchases.
Their best buy was the England stalwart Danni Wyatt, who will be seen reinforcing UP’s batting line-up. Warriorz have made an 18-member squad after the auction. Following this development, let’s have a look at some quality players who are the favourites to form an 11-member side for Warriorz in 2024.
Here is the best starting XI of UP Warriorz in the 2024 auction
1. Alyssa Healy (C) & (WK)
Alyssa Healy looked fabulous as skipper and batter for UPW in 2023. She scored 253 runs in nine matches at a strike rate of 141.34 and ended up as the second-leading run-getter for the team. UP will expect Healy to lead the side from the front in the upcoming tournament.
2. Danni Wyatt
Danni Wyatt will add her experience to the team with her exceptional batting talent. In the 2023 Hundred women’s competition, she looked spectacular with her bat for Southern Brave, smashing 295 runs in nine matches at a strike rate of 141.14. In the 2024 WPL, The England batter will endeavour to deliver blistering starts to Warriorz, along with her captain Healy.
3. Vrinda Dinesh
UPW have fetched uncapped Indian batter Vrinda Dinesh at a hefty amount of INR 1.3 crore. The youngster will look to grab this opportunity with both hands and produce some outstanding knocks for the team. Vrinda bats at the top order for India A so she might be seen supporting UPW in the upcoming competition, as a top-order batter.
4. Kiran Navgire
Kiran Navgire didn’t look great with her bat in 2023, accumulating only 155 runs in eight innings at a low strike rate of 114.81. Despite his flop show, the UPW team management has backed her for the next WPL season. In 2024, she will have to play some superb innings and justify her role in the team.
5. Tahlia McGrath
Tahlia McGrath put up an extraordinary show with her bat in the maiden WPL season. She hit 302 runs in nine matches at a remarkable strike rate of 158.11 and became the third-leading run-scorer in the competition. In the upcoming WPL season, the Australian batter will look to dominate bowlers again.
6. Shweta Sehrawat
Shweta Sehrawat had a forgettable season in 2023 as she could pile up only 34 runs in six innings at a terrible average of 6.80. The 19-year-old has another chance to prove herself in UPW colours and she will strive to grab it with both hands.
7. Deepti Sharma
Deepti Sharma looked decent with the ball, bagging nine wickets in nine matches at an economy of 8.87. However, the youngster will back herself to be better in 2024 as she has the calibre to make batters’ jobs difficult with her spin bowling on India’s turning tracks.
8. Sophie Ecclestone
Sophie Ecclestone looked phenomenal with the ball for UPW and ended up as the joint-leading wicket-taker in the tournament, with Mumbai Indians’ Hayley Matthews. The English bowler will look to spearhead UP’s spin-bowling unit confidently in 2024.
9. S Yasashri
Soppadhandi Yasashri might be seen bolstering UP’s pace attack along with Anjali Sarvani. The youngster’s endeavours will be to wreak havoc on batters in the 2024 WPL edition and attract some attention.
10. Rajeshwari Gayakwad
Rajeshwari Gayakwad looked decent with the ball, picking up seven wickets in eight games at an economy of 8.20. However, the team management will want her to be more disciplined and contain the flow of runs. In the upcoming tournament, the left-arm spinner will have to support Ecclestone to strengthen the UP’s spin department.
11. Anjali Sarvani
UPW will expect their speedster Anjali Sarvani to wreak havoc on batters with her left-arm bowling. The speedster will have to turn herself into a wicket-taking bowler for the team. In 2023, she played nine matches and took only four wickets at an economy of 7.91.
