Bangladesh have made some rapid progress in the game especially in the ODI format in recent years. One of the biggest reasons behind it is the new crop of players who entered the scene in the second half of the 2000s. The likes of Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan, Mahumudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim and a few others laid the foundation for a strong Bangladesh team.
It did not take these talented players long to make Bangladesh a force to be reckoned with in the 50-over format. Defeating India in the 2007 World Cup or England in the 2011 World Cup, and making it to the Asia Cup final in 2012 as well as 2018, are enough to show the huge progress made by the Bangla Tigers in recent years.
Bangladesh will be hoping for another good performance in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023. They will be banking on their reliable names once again to deliver in the showpiece event. Therefore, Bangladesh will look to put up another impressive campaign in the marquee 50-over tournament to be held in India later this year.
Let's have a look at the top 3 Bangladesh players who have scored the most runs in a single edition of the World Cup.
3. Mahmudullah
Veteran allrounder Mahmudullah is at the third spot in this list. The right-handed middle-order made his ODI debut in 2007 and played his first-ever World Cup game in 2011 against Team India. In his maiden World Cup tournament, he played four games and managed to score only 32 runs.
But by the time the 2015 World Cup arrived, Mahmudullah was already an established name in the Bangladesh team and performed as per his reputation. In the testing Australian condition, he finished the competition as Bangladesh's highest run-scorer ahead of the likes of Tamim, Mushfiqur and Shakib.
He played a key role in Bangladesh's march to the quarterfinal where they lost against India. The Bangladesh star finished the 2015 World Cup with 365 runs in six games at an impressive average of 73. He produced two back-to-back centuries too, against the likes of England and New Zealand. Notably, the century against England helped Bangladesh to script a historic win.
