Cricket Australia has announced the addition of Jude Coleman (South Australia) and Dan Marsh (Tasmania) as part of the Women’s team coaching staff. The acquisition comes after the appointment of Shelley Nitschke as the new interim head coach for the Women’s team. Both Coleman and Marsh are former cricketers who plied their trade in the domestic circuit. Coleman represented the Queensland Women’s Cricket team in 60 matches and is the 2nd highest wicket-taker of the team.
Meanwhile, Marsh is a former Tasmania captain who has over 8000 runs in First-class cricket. The former all-rounder led his side to their first-ever Pura Cup title win in the 2006-07 season. Ben Oliver, EGM of High Performance and National Teams, spoke about the appointments of Coleman and Marsh on Monday (June 6).
“It’s great to have coaches of such high caliber in the Australian system who we can call upon as we have with Jude and Dan. Both have extensive coaching and playing experience and did a brilliant job with Australia A team earlier this year, so we know they’ll be of great assistance to Shelley, Meg, and the team over the coming months,” Oliver said.
Australia is to take on Pakistan and Ireland in July before the Commonwealth Games
The pair of Coleman and Marsh completes the backroom staff and will be on their first assignments in the tri-series in Ireland in July. They join the coaching staff after the departure of assistant coach Ben Swayer, who has been appointed the new head coach of New Zealand’s Women’s team.
Cricket Australia, who announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming fixtures last month, appointed former all-rounder Shelley Nitschke as interim coach after the departure of Matthew Mott who was named head coach of England’s men’s team.
After the tri-series in Ireland, Australia will then travel to the United Kingdom to participate in the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. The team will be led by Meg Lanning with Rachael Haynes being her deputy. Star all-rounder, Ellyse Perry is set to feature for the team but will be restricted to just the batting role as she is recovering from a stress fracture.
