One of the most tragic events on the cricket field was the death of former Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes. While playing a Sheffield Shield game, the batsman was hit by a bouncer from Sean Abbott and never quite recovered thereafter. The world was saddened by the loss to the Hughes family as well as Australian and world cricket.
A couple of years after his demise it is being reported that the family was paid $ 4 million as compensation by Cricket Australia. As per the reports, the family was given the money keeping in mind their possible sources of earning of the future. It was an approximate total of Phillip’s expected earnings a cumulative sum of the contract payment for the ongoing and the following year along with a rough estimate of what the deceased cricketer could have earned in the next decade.
A Cricket Australia spokesperson, however, dismissed the reports of the amount being $ 4 million and said that he cannot talk about it since it is a private matter.
“We do not comment on private financial matters, but it must be stated that the figure published by The West Australian is wrong. It is extremely disappointing that the paper would publish a speculative amount,” the spokesman was quoted in a statement by dailymail.co.uk.
