Amidst everything that has been going on in the media around the Australian head coach Justin Langer, Cricket Australia (CA) has come up with the press release defending him for doing a good job in the position. In the last few months, there have been several speculations made that Langer’s way of handling the team has not sat well with the players.
There have been leaks in the media regarding the way the former Australian opener has handled situations in recent times. It doesn’t help on top of everything that Australia has not had a lot of success recently. Earlier this year, they lost the Test series at home against India. Since then, the Aussies have gone onto lose two T20I series with a margin of 1-4, in West Indies and Bangladesh.
The statement published by CA in defense of Langer seems to put all the questions regarding him getting sacked to bed for now. The Western Australian took over the role in 2018 after Darren Lehmann quit in the aftermath of the ball-tampering scandal which had jolted Australian cricket. The statement acknowledged Langer’s efforts in restoring the public faith in the Australian team.

The statement also revealed that Langer’s contract will run till mid-2022. “He is contracted as Head Coach through to the middle of next year with the focus now on a successful T20 World Cup campaign followed by the home Ashes defense in what is one of the most anticipated Series and summers of cricket in Australia for many years,” the press release read.
The statement touched upon the fact that the pandemic has made lives extremely difficult. It also noted that the Australian team has done well since the start of the pandemic whenever they have had a full-strength side. With the huge summer coming ahead, Cricket Australia seems to have decided on putting their money on Langer and his coaching staff to defend the Ashes.
“Like many in the community and around the world, the team has had an extremely disruptive and challenging 18 months during the pandemic. Despite those challenges, the side has had great success in One-Day, Test, and T20 cricket, when all players were available. Justin, his coaching staff, and the leaders within the team have an equally important part to play in ensuring a successful summer ahead for the Australian cricket team,” the statement’s last part read.
