Cricket Australia security chief flies into Dhaka to inspect security arrangements

Sean Carroll, the security chief for Cricket Australia has made his way up to Dhaka to inspect the security arrangements that have been put in place for the ongoing England tour. Prior to the start of the England tour, a number of players were on the verge of pulling out of the Bangladesh tour with security concerns despite the reassurance of the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

In spite of the absentees, the Brits went ahead with the tour following a detailed security detail, something that many were quite impressed by. Nizamuddin Chowdhury, the chairman of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) released a statement regarding the whereabouts of Mr. Sean Carroll. This is viewed with some degree of positivity from the BCB.

“We are aware of Sean Carroll’s arrival,” Chowdhury told ESPNcricinfo. “He came today and traveled with the England convoy to take a practical look at the security arrangements. He will be here for a few days. During the England tour, the Australia high commission has also kept in touch with us about the security arrangements.

Reports from a few credible sources went on to stated that Carroll accompanied the England team bus from the team hotel in Dhaka to the Shere-e-Bangla Stadium. He accompanied them in an envoy in a bid to observe the security detail provided. Chowdhury viewed this development with stern optimism, something that could perhaps prompt an Australian tour in the near future.

“It is certainly an encouraging sign, as it shows that they are keen to have a look at our security arrangements and are positive about coming in August next year.”

Australia had deferred from the earlier tours stating similar reasons. Cricket Australia had also not sent a team to represent the country in the U19 World Cup citing governmental and security reasons. James Sutherland, the CEO of the Australian Cricket Board had also given Bangladesh a commitment earlier regarding a possible tour in 2017. However, with the terror attack in Dhaka, this seems quite unlikely.
