Who is Vijaykumar Vyshak? - All you need to know about RCB's newest pace sensation

Match 20 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals featured several excellent performances from both sides. From Virat Kohli’s 47th half-century in the tournament to Mitchell Marsh’s excellent spell, however, there was one performance that stood out more than ever and it was the brilliant spell of debutant Vijaykumar Vyshak.

Born and bred in Bangalore, the 26-year-old does not possess blistering pace; however, he does have the ability to trouble batters with a diverse range of deliveries in his arsenal. Vyshak’s domestic career speaks volumes, as in 10 first class matches, he has 38 wickets to his name, with 11 wickets in seven List A matches. 

Furthermore, before appearing in his first game for the RCB, he had played 14 T20 matches in the domestic circuit, where he has 22 wickets to his name with an economy rate of 6.92. Vyshak was drafted into Bangalore’s side following an injury to Rajat Patidar, and as soon as he got the chance, Vyshak delivered.

Vyshak’s fabulous performances in the Ranji Trophy paid off

Vijaykumar Vyshak represents Karnataka in the Ranji Trophy, and the right-arm pacer proved to be one of the most influential players for his side. Vyshak was the leading wicket-taker for Karnataka in the 2022-23 season, and with his sensational performances came a callup to represent one of the most popular franchises in the IPL.

Starting off as a net bowler for Bangalore, the pacer was given an opportunity to feature in the starting lineup against Delhi Capitals. After Bangalore posted 174 runs on the board in the first innings, Vyshak’s spell proved to be crucial in the second innings as he took three wickets and conceded just 20 runs in the four overs he bowled.

He dismissed the likes of David Warner, Axar Patel, and Lalit Yadav to propel the Faf du Plessis-led side to a thrilling victory in the 20th game of the IPL 2023. After his sensational performance, Vyshak could now feature in many more games at the ongoing T20 carnival.
