Cricket fraternity congratulates Papua New Guinea after they qualify for their first-ever T20 World Cup

On 27th October, Papua New Guinea created history by earning their maiden chance to play T20 World Cup in Australia which is scheduled next year. On this historic occasion, cricketing fraternity came out on social media in order to hail the exceptional effort of PNG in the T20 World Cup qualifiers and poured wishes on their team from every nook and corner of the world.
At one moment, PNG was struggling at 19/6 against Kenya but recovered from the early collapse in the crucial encounter of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019. It was Norman Vanua who recovered his team from a disastrous start with the help of brilliant inning and scored 55 runs in 48 balls. He also stitched a well organized 77 runs partnership with Ses Bau for the seventh wicket. Kenya needed 112 runs in order to qualify for the play-offs but their batsmen remained unsuccessful in chasing the target.
Papua New Guinea creates history
PNG were leading the table with five wins in their six matches. However, they had to wait for the result of the Netherlands’ game. The Dutch team defeated Scotland by four wickets but had to chase a target of 131 runs in 12.3 overs in order to grab the first position in the points table, but they took 17 overs to chase.
After Netherlands’ match came to an end, PNG automatically got qualified for the T20 World Cup 2020. The Australian coach of PNG, Joe Dawes looked emotional and quoted, “I am feeling a little emotional. It’s been a pretty big two years, for them to achieve this is pretty special,” Joe said as quoted by Sportstar.
The coach also stated that it is a great thing to achieve and wanted to enjoy themoment to the fullest, “We’ll start thinking about that tomorrow. We are just going to enjoy the moment. For them to achieve this is a great thing for us and for the nation.” he added.

Now, the top six teams of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier 2019 will join Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the first group stage of the World Cup in October 2020.
