Cricket in 2018: 5 Spirit of Cricket Moments from the year
These moments reiterated the fact that cricket is well and truly a gentleman's game.
2. Indian Team giving a nice reception to Alastair Cook
Alastair Cook, one of England’s greatest ever batsmen and captains, happened to be one of the very few cricketers who hung up his boots in the year 2018. The highest English run-scorer in Tests, Sir Chef, decided to bid farewell to the 12-year prospective career at the end of the final match of the Test series against India in September this year. Consequently, the Indian team left no stone unturned in giving the former English captain a memorable farewell.
On the eve it was Joe Root who won the toss and decided to bat first as Cook and Jennings walked out to bat. As a badge of respect, the Indian team gave a guard of honour to the Knighthood on the mark of his retirement. Post an overwhelming guard of honour, the Indian captain Virat Kohli shook hands with Alastair before the start of the day’s play.
