It’s obviously massive privilege and honour for me to lead Netherlands in ODI World Cup: Scott Edwards [Exclusive Interview]

After surprising the entire cricketing fraternity with their outstanding outing in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier, 2023, the Netherlands locked horns with the five-time World Cup champions, Australia in their Warm-up match ahead of the main round of the ODI World Cup 2023, which got washed off. The Dutch players also completed a week-long training session, on the outskirts of Bengaluru, in Alur Cricket Ground ahead of WC 2023.

The training session was complimented by Team Netherlands’ interactions with the media where Netherlands captain and star wicketkeeper-batter, Scott Edwards opened up in an exclusive conversation with CricTracker. In the conversation, he discussed all the strategies and plans of the Netherlands for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. Apart from that, he also expressed his personal feelings on leading the Dutch side in an ODI World Cup.

How arriving early in India for the ODI World Cup 2023 and preparations will help the Netherlands?

I think, obviously getting used to the conditions. Bit of a cliché but I think it plays a massive part. So, you knock acclimatizing to the weather and things here have been massive for us. So, yeah, now we’re comfortable as we know where our preparations at and we’re looking forward to getting going into it. 

How does it feel to lead the Netherlands for the first time in an ODI World Cup?

It’s obviously a massive privilege and honour for me, I am probably very lucky to have a lot of guys who played a good amount of cricket. Like, I have a lot of guys to lean on.

How has been the experience with head coach Ryan Cook as a colleague since he joined the Netherlands?  

Cooksey (Ryan Cook) has been great for us; he has been with us for almost a year. He has brought a lot of professionalism for us on the side. He has played an amazing role for us on the side.
