Here's what the captains said
Rohit Sharma:
We started superbly with the ball. We knew wicket could get slower but backed our experienced batters to go out there and get 240. Credit goes to Kuldeep, Axar, Jadeja al who have played a lot. Rizwan and Saud stitched a good stand, was important not to let the game drift. Not to forget how Shami, Hardik, Harshit bowled as well. It was a good performance from the entire unit. Boys understand what kind of job is required out of them. It's tricky at times because not all will get a bowl. I try to figure out who's creating the most problems to the batters and make decisions. Virat loves representing the country, doing what he does the best, which is what he did today. People sitting inside the dressing room aren't surprised with what he did. Hamstring's okay at the moment.
Mohammad Rizwan:
We won the toss but didn't get the benefit. We wanted to get 280 but their bowlers did really well in the middle overs. When Saud and I were batting, we wanted to go deep. But our shot selection was bad and lost wickets, which is why we were kept to 240. Abrar gave us the wicket, but Kohli and Gill took the game far from us. We must improve our fielding. We made a lot of mistakes this match, they've repeated, hope to work on them going forward.
Virat Kohli speaks
Virat Kohli, who earned the Player of the Match award for his unbeaten 100, opened up during the post-match presentation:
It feels to be good to bat in that manner in an important game, where a spot for semis was there to be taken, after Rohit fell. My job was clear - to control the middle overs, not take risks against spinners and take on pacers. I was happy with the template, it's how I play in ODIs. I have a decent understanding of my game. It's about keeping the outside noise away, take care of my energy levels and thoughts. It's easy for me to get pulled into expectations and frenzy around games like these. I kept telling myself I'll give my 100% while fielding. It's why I take pride in it. When you put your head down and go about your work, things work out. Clarity is important, when there is pace on the ball you have to get scoring. Shubman and Shreyas have been excellent. Everyone's got a decent knock in these conditions, that'll augur well in the coming matches. At 36, a week off is very good. It takes a lot out of me to put in that much effort.
India and Kohli win
Kohli hits a boundary to see India through and reach his 82nd century. Absolute carnage from the India batter in Dubai, and the Men in Blue win over the arch-rivals. What a match. No really, what an absolute delightful match!

Right then
Kohli needs 5, but India only need 4, and he takes a single. Axar Patel is on strike. My goodness..!!
Kohli is on 90, India need 10 to win
Absolute scenes in Dubai. Both Kohli and India need just 10 runs to get to the milestone. Drama, complete drama as Shaheen throws a wide.
WICKET!
Shaheen Afridi finds a little edge off Hardik's blade as Rizwan takes a simple catch. Axar Patel is the next batter in.
Hardik on strike, trouble for Kohli?
With India needing 27 and Kohli 15 short of his century, Hardik Pandya arrives at the crease. Hardik has a very bad reputation for not letting his partner complete their milestones and Kohli must be having butterflies in his stomach right now. Oh what a game!
What a stunner..!!
Shreyas Iyer departs against the run of play. A fiercely struck ball has Imam-Ul-Haq taking an unbelievable catch at covers.
FIFTY
Shreyas Iyer continues his good run of form to complete his half-century. He started slowly, but picked up pace to get the landmark off just 63 balls. His 21st in the format, and what better stage to do it. His partnership with Kohli surely has India in the driver's seat. Under 40 runs to get now with eight wickets and 13 overs remaining.
FIFTY & Counting!

A solid half-century this from Shreyas Iyer 💪
2⃣0⃣0⃣ up for #TeamIndia in the chase!

200 up
After 36 overs, India are 200 for 2. Shreyas Iyer is just a run short of his half-century, while Kohli nears his eagerly-awaited 82nd ton.
IYERRRRRRRRRRR
Shreyas Iyer welcomes Salman Ali Agha with a huge six. Steps down the ground and parks the ball into the stands as it goes high and long. 102 metres strike in Dubai, and Iyer adds salt to Pakistan's wounds.
DROPPED CATCH..!!
Shreyas Iyer gets a big lifeline as Saud Shakeel drops a catchable pull shot from the batter. Khushdil Shah, the bowler, seems angry and right so. Big moment in the game. This could well have opened the doors for Pakistan once again.
The most anticipated clash in cricket
The most anticipated clash in cricket is set to take place on Sunday, February 23, as hosts Pakistan (PAK) and arch-rivals India (IND) will play their second Group A match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at the Dubai International Stadium.
Contrasting starts to the tournament
Both teams come into this clash with contrasting starts to the tournament. The Men in Green suffered a 60-run loss to New Zealand, and have several issues to address. Their star batter, Babar Azam, was heavily criticized for his slow-paced 64 off 90 balls in a high-scoring chase, and he will be under immense pressure to accelerate against India. The injury to opener Fakhar Zaman, the hero of the 2017 final, is another setback, with Imam-ul-Haq replacing him in the squad.
Key performers for Pakistan
One positive for Pakistan in the previous match was Khushdil Shah’s knock of 69. The middle-order batter himself admitted he was surprised to be in the squad, but Pakistan will be relieved that the gamble has paid off. Meanwhile, Shaheen Afridi and the rest of Pakistan’s bowling attack will need a massive turnaround after being taken apart by the Kiwis.
India’s strong start
On the other hand, Rohit Sharma-led side began their campaign on a high note with a six-wicket win over Bangladesh, thanks to Shubman Gill’s unbeaten century (101*) and Mohammed Shami’s five-wicket haul (5/53). The team looked well-balanced against Bangladesh, with Gill showing his class with his eighth ODI century. The bowling unit, led by Shami and young pacer Harshit Rana, looked sharp even in the absence of injured spearhead Jasprit Bumrah.
Key players to watch for in India vs Pakistan
Hardik Pandya, known for his performances against Pakistan in ICC events, will be eager to make an impact, especially after his fighting effort in the 2017 Champions Trophy final, which India lost. However, all eyes will be on Virat Kohli, who has struggled to convert his starts into big scores.
