The first semi-final of the ongoing Champions Trophy will be played between India and Australia at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, March 4. India ended up as toppers of Group A. Meanwhile, Australia finished second in Group B.
India breezed through the league phase by notching up victories in all three of their games. Their first two games were comfortable run-chases ending up in respective six-wicket victories over Bangladesh and Pakistan. The victory which ensured them the first place in their group was a 44-run triumph against New Zealand.
Australia’s run to the final four was a starkly contrasting one. A stellar run-chase guaranteed the Steve Smith-led side to a dominant five-wicket win against England. Their next couple of games against South Africa and Afghanistan were hindered by adverse weather conditions.
This will be the first instance after the final of the 2023 World Cup that the two sides will take each other on in the ODI format. Much is at stake for both of them as they gear up to face either of South Africa or New Zealand in the final of the marquee ODI tournament on Sunday, March 9.
