Winning skipper Rohit Sharma speaks
Before speaking, Rohit Sharma shared a signed team jersey with Dean Elgar, as both posed along to share the momentous gesture. And right after speaking, both pose with the trophy for levelling the series 1-1.
Rohit Sharma: A great feet. In Centurion, we had to learn from the mistakes. We came back very well, especially our bowlers. Had some plans and the boys got rewarded. We applied ourselves, we batted well to get a 100-run lead, not pleasing to see the last six wickets. We knew that it's going to be a short game, we knew ever run matters, to get that lead was very important. (On Siraj) Very special, something you don;t get to see very often. We spoke about keeping things simple and that's what happened. The pitch did the rest. Lot of credit to Siraj, Bumrah, Mukesh and Prasidh. Whenever you come here, it's challenging. We have played a lot of good cricket outside India, we take a lot of pride. We would have loved to win the series. South Africa is a great team, they always challenges us, they are sch a good team. We can take a lot of pride from this performance. (On Elgar) Such an important player for SA, very gritty, we apprentice that. I'd like to wish him the best. Brilliant career, best wishes ahead.

Dean Elgar, Jasprit Bumrah share Player of the Series
Dean Elgar (200 runs) and Jasprit Bumrah (12 wickets) get Player of the Series award.
Dean Elgar | Player of the Series: I would have liked to do more in this game. Still very proud of my performance I had in Centurion. Nice to contribute to a winning cause. Some really tough conditions throughout. It (3-Test series) would have been fantastic. You want to challenge yourself, Bumrah is world-class, he deserves this award. You want to push yourself to limits. Glad that I don;t have to face these guys again. Fond memories. We've come a long way. Very grateful to play against these guys.
Bumrah: As I said before, this ground will hold a special place in my heart. Fond memories of my first game and happy it went well for me. The journey started in 2018 and we wanted to create an impact in all conditions. In India, the spinners do a lot more work. The team is now going through a transition but the message is the same. It's difficult to keep coming at it; we were happy we were able to do it in this game. I didn't expect this was going to happen (shortest Test) but a great series.
Mohammed Siraj is the Player of the Match
Mohammed Siraj | Player of the Match: It's my best figures in Test career. I tried to be consistent and hit the right areas. I wasn't consistent in the previous match and that's why we leaked a lot of runs. Worked hard on consistency and tried to be relentless with my lengths. When we play together, he (Bumrah) gets the message earlier. We try to analyse the wicket quicker. (Message to the fans) Thank you so much, keep supporting.
Dean Elgar speaks at the presentation party
Dean Elgar: A tough one for us. Pretty positive coming into this game. India bowled fantastically and used the conditions. Still a lot of positives for the young players that we have within the side. 2-0 would have been really nice, still managed 1-1, proud of the boys. The way the bowlers bowled in the series and the way Aiden batted in the second innings is something out of the world. (On the pitch) It was a bit of a ripper. Naked eye, it looked like it's going to be a nice one. It played totally different to what everyone thought. We were on the receiving end, big learning curve for us. If you ask Rohit, he'd have batted first. They just out-skilled us in that first session.
CSA applauds Dean Elgar

The Dean Elgar moment ft. Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli, legendary India batter, shares his match jersey with Dean Elgar upon the moment of his last appearance in international career. Both the players have a nice little chat, as Kohli congratulates his South African counterpart for an illustrious career. Elgar, too, shakes hands with Virat, and thanks him for the lovely gesture. He has surely retired as one of the best that the game has ever seen.

MATCH SUMMARY
SOUTH AFRICA (1st Inns) - 55/10
INDIA (1st Inns) - 153/10 (Lead by 98)
SOUTH AFRICA (2nd Inns) - 176/10 (Lead by 78)
INDIA - 80/3
IND win the match by seven wickets.
Fun fact
642. That's not the runs scored in the game, but the total number of balls this match lasted. And just in case you're curious, yes, it is the shortest Test match in terms of balls bowled.
And that's that...!!
India win the match by seven wickets, and more than three days to spare. Shreyas Iyer hits the winnings runs with a boundary towards the long on region. Rohit Sharma hugs the opposition skipper Dean Elgar and congratulates him for an end to his fantastic career. He leads the team to the dressing, for one last time. All the team members join in. Indian players are also out for shaking hands and share their moment with Elgar.
Third wicket goes down
The ball flicks Kohli's gloves on its way to the keeper. SA went for the DRS, and the ultra-edge enforced the correct decision to stand. India lose three, with four more to get.
Rohit is dropped
Tony de Zorzi drops a ball that went way too high in the sky. The fielder at gully had a better chance, but remained unmoved. Finally, de Zorzi went for it, and ended up dropping it.
Bowled'em
Shubman Gill is off, as Rabada dismantles his stumps. The ball stayed low, and Gill could not get his bat in the way. With 22 more runs needed to win, India lose their second wicket. And now, Virat Kohli has walked out to bat.
India and South Africa are set to play their first game in 2024. The two international giants will square off in the second and final Test match at Newlands, Cape Town, beginning Wednesday, January 3.
The Proteas will be upbeat after annihilating India in the Boxing Day Test in Centurion inside three days. India suffered a rare innings defeat as South Africa won by an innings and 32 runs. Indian fans will be hoping for a spirited fightback from their team after looking quite rattled for the majority of the first game.
South Africa will be without the services of their regular captain Temba Bavuma, who injured his hamstring while fielding in the early goings of the first Test. Dean Elgar, who would be playing his last international game, has been entrusted with the captaincy role. He would go into the contest with immense confidence after scoring a majestic 185 in the first game, a knock which earned him the Player of the Match award.
Another player South Africa will miss in their forthcoming encounter is in-form pacer Gerald Coetzee. Pelvic inflammation ruled him out of this contest. He might be replaced by Keshav Maharaj as South Africa could look to add more variety to their attack. It is important to note that the hosts didn't play a frontline spinner in the first Test. However, with conditions expected to be more balanced in Cape Town, it could make the accurate Maharaj an important player in the South African ranks.
Ravindra Jadeja could return to the side in place of Ravichandran Ashwin. The Saurashtra all-rounder missed the first Test due to back spasm. Avesh Khan, who was added to the squad after the first Test, as a replacement of the injured Mohammed Shami, could be in line for a debut, replacing Prasidh Krishna, who didn't look in good rhythm in Centurion.
India have managed to level a Test series in the Rainbow Nation on only one occasion in eight attempts since 1992. They have not been able to win a Test series as yet. After losing the first Test, the best India can achieve from here is the square the series. There are important World Test Championship (WTC) points at stake and that is why both teams would like to give their all in search for a win.
