The mega auction for the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be conducted on November 24 and November 25. The forthcoming event is slated to take place in Jeddah, making it only the second auction to be taking place outside India.
Record Number of Player Registrations:
A whopping total of 1,574 players have registered for the IPL 2025 auction, with 1,165 Indians and 409 overseas players making up the tally. Among the total players who have signed up, 320 of them are capped, 1,224 are uncapped, and 30 are from associate nations. 204 slots will be up for grabs at the event to be held in the coming days.
Team Purse Distribution Post Retentions:
After the retentions, franchises have the following amounts remaining in their purses:
- Punjab Kings: INR 110.50 crore
- Royal Challengers Bangalore: INR 83 crore
- Delhi Capitals: INR 73 crore
- Lucknow Super Giants & Gujarat Titans: INR 69 crore each
- Chennai Super Kings: INR 55 crore
- Kolkata Knight Riders: INR 51 crore
- Mumbai Indians & Sunrisers Hyderabad: INR 45 crore each
- Rajasthan Royals: INR 41 crore (least remaining purse)
After the Deadline Day, Punjab Kings have INR 110.50 crore in the bank. Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans have a similar amount in the kitty (INR 69 crore). The same goes for the case of Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad, with both of them left with INR 45 crore. While Royal Challengers Bengaluru have the second-largest purse remaining (INR 83 crore), their arch-rivals, Rajasthan Royals, have the least purse left (INR 41 crore). The joint-most successful franchise, Chennai Super Kings, have INR 55 crore at their disposal while defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, have INR 51 crore stored. Lastly, Delhi Capitals are left with INR 73 crore.
New Bidding Rules for IPL 2025 Auction:
For this year's auction, new bidding rules have been tentatively introduced as follows:
- Base price INR 30 lakh to INR 1 crore: Bid increases by INR 5 lakh.
- Base price INR 1 crore to INR 2 crore: Bid increases by INR 10 lakh.
- Base price INR 2 crore to INR 10 crore: Bid increases by INR 20 lakh.
- Base price INR 10 crore or more: Bid increases by INR 50 lakh until the player is finalized.
For a player whose base price ranges from INR 30 lakh to INR 1 crore, the bid will increase by INR 5 lakh. Similarly, the increase in bid price will be INR 10 lakh and INR 20 lakh for players possessing a base price between INR 1 crore & INR 2 crore and INR 2 crore & INR 10 crore, respectively. Last but not least, a player who has registered their base price as INR 10 crore or more will have their bid increased by INR 50 lakh till a team finalizes them into the roster.
