Winning skipper Rohit Sharma said:
"This was the game, a lot of character in the squad. All our experienced players stood up at the right time and got the game for us. Looking at how the tournament has go on, we had to come and bat here. We were challenged upfront, they bowled pretty well upfront. To get to a total on a pitch that something in it, we just wanted to get to a total we could play with it. We were not great with the bat. Losing three wickets isn't the ideal situation. Couple of guys threw it, including myself. When you look at the overall picture, we were 30 runs short. It's not something you see everyday. When you start your innings, you have to try and get a couple of wickets to put the pressure back on the opposition. You can always rely on our seamers to come good and get those crucial breakthroughs. They exploited the conditions. They put the ball in the right areas. We have a good balance (in the bowling), there's a bit of options and with experience as well. It's very important that the batters put runs on the board," Rohit said.
Thank you so much for joining us for yet another amazing match. See you all tomorrow. Until then, Goodnight folks!
Losing skipper Jos Buttler said:
"Very disappointed. At the halfway stage, chasing 230, we fancied ourselves, same old story. I wasn't sure if dew would come or not. We bowled well, took wickets, we would have taken 229. Personally, I wanted to soak some pressure up and then build a partnership and kill the momentum that India had. It's about committing and executing your skill. There wasn't scoreboard pressure. We are just falling short whichever way we are doing it. Some top players, we are a long way short of our best. Excellent start in the powerplay, there was a bit of indifferent bounce, the ground fielding was good. It felt like today was the day, but we didn't back it up with the bat. We still got lots to play for," Buttler said.
Most bowled dismissals by India in an ODI:
6 vs SL Sharjah 1986
6 vs WI Kolkata 1993
6 vs Eng Lucknow 2023
Rohit Sharma adjudged POTM:
"Looking at where we were after the first 10 overs it was really important to create that partnership with KL Rahul. It was a challenging pitch, it got better to bat on as the game progressed, but happy with that win. I have got experience, it's not only about going out there and playing my shots (got to assess the conditions and situation) as well. It was necessary for me to create that partnership with KL. I still felt we were 20 runs short (at the halfway stage). Batting against the new ball was a bit challenging, the ball got softer and it wasn't easy rotating strike either. Like I said we were 15-20 runs short, but I will take that win any day," Rohit said.

Fans question umpire's decision in Joe Root's dismissal
New controversy erupts in the ongoing ODI World Cup. Joe Root was given LBW by the on-field umpire but the batter called for review after consulting Jonny Bairstow. In the DRS, there was a small spike spotted but the third umpire chose to ignore that and the decision and gave him out after it eventually went on to hit the stumps. Some of the fans instantly took to Twitter to express their displeasure regarding the standard of the umpire.

Here's what Chris Woakes said after the first innings:
“Nice to do well with the new ball. It was nice to get back in rhythm, we bowled in the right areas today. Picking up wickets is always nice, we put them under pressure early on. I missed my lengths earlier in the tournament, was a bit frustrating, but I hit the right areas today. The fielders backed up the bowlers and that set the tone for us. It's two paced with the new ball. Hopefully the conditions get better under lights. It's a good Indian side, hopefully we bat well and chase it down,” Woakes said.

Indian players are wearing black armband
The Indian cricketers are wearing black armbands in the match against England at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. This is to pay tribute to the late great Bishan Singh Bedi, who passed away earlier in the week.

"We wanted to bat first, we have had a good time batting second. It’s a good surface, it has played well for the 100 overs. It’s quite important to think like that and is also important to play well. We have played some good cricket. It's always good to have a break. It's nice to come back here and get back into business. We are playing the same team we played in the last game," Rohit said.
Here's what England skipper Jos Buttler said during toss:
"We are going to bowl first today. Not anything in particular, it's a tough decision. It's a great occasion and hopefully, today we bring our best. Today, we want to put up a good show. PITCH REPORT!
This does look like a Wankhede stadium track of the 80s and 90s. It’s the fourth game at this venue and we can already see some wear and tear and some dry patches, spinners will come into play. Under lights, batting will get easier. Quality spinners will come into play. I think it will spin, it is about how much and when. India are more dangerous when there’s a bit of spin. If it spins, it will bring Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali into play. If it’s a good pitch and it turns a bit, then India will be favourites. It looks like a decent pitch, reckon Ravi Shastri and Nasser Hussain.
GOOD AFTERNOON FROM LUCKNOW!
It's a massive Sunday as hosts India take on defending champions England at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. The Three Lions will be aiming to return to the winning ways and keep themselves alive to the top four race, while India will be on a mission to keep their undefeated streak alive!
India will look to stretch their unbeaten run in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 as they face an under-fire England side on Sunday, October 29 in Lucknow.
With five wins in as many games, India are sitting pretty at No. 2 in the points table, and a win against England will help them recapture the top spot. The 'Men in Blue' faced their toughest challenge so far in the tournament in their most recent game against New Zealand. It was in that match that India lost more than four wickets for the first time in the 10-team tournament. Ultimately, India chased down the 274-run target with four wickets and two overs to spare.
Captain Rohit Sharma and talismanic batter Virat Kohli have been in exceptional form in the marquee event and this has been one of the major reasons behind the excellent performance of the two-time champions. While Virat has scored 354 runs in five games at a staggering average of 118, Rohit has amassed 311 runs in as many games at an average of 62.20. The latter has been getting India off to flying starts and his strike rate in the tournament thus far is an impressive 133.48.
The bowlers have also made vital contributions, with Jasprit Bumrah leading the way with 11 wickets in five games at 16.27. Hardik Pandya is yet to recover but in his absence, Mohammed Shami has shown how lethal he can be. The right-arm pacer picked up a five-for in the game against the Blackcaps and will be high on confidence.
While there are positive aplenty in the Indian camp, the same cannot be said about England. The defending champions have lost four out of their five matches and will have to turn things around quickly to keep their semi-final hopes alive. However, even if they manage to win all their remaining World Cup matches, England will have to hope for other results to go their way.
England's strength lies in their batting but no one has shown consistency of late. Reece Topley was looking menacing as he picked up eight wickets but he has been ruled out with an injury. With backs against the wall, Jos Buttler and Co. will look to fight back and give their supporters something to cheer. If they manage to beat a top side like India, it could do wonders for their confidence.
