That's all we have from today's game
South Africa move no.2 on the points table with that win. On that note, we are signing off, but we will be there for tomorrow's Super Sunday clash.
The game will be played between India and Australia at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Meanwhile, BCCI has announced that they will be releasing 14,000 tickets for the clash between India and Pakistan on October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. READ MORE HERE.
Good night people. See you tomorrow. Take care and Shabba Khair
Temba Bavuma, the South African captain, speaks!
Temba Bavuma, Winning Skipper: Happy. We wanted to win and did that. As a batter, nothing to find fault in. Asked for a clinical performance with ball. Didn't get that but individual performances were good. Probably a blessing in disguise that we lost the toss. Ball came on to the bat better after the powerplay. The point was to adjust with the conditions, we thought it'd be a bit more variable. Probably didn't adjust early enough, Mendis got us. Kesh took the pace off and was very good. Maybe need to add spin options, these are the learnings we have to take. Challenge would be adapting there again. Quinton will be fine.
Losing captain speaks!
Dasun Shanaka, Losing captain: I expected a high-scoring game. Rassie, Quinny, Markram got great hundreds. We were missing lengths regularly, execution wasn't good. When we play again, we need to change that. We expected to keep them to 350-370, we thought it'd be manageable given Asalanka and Mendis' form but we couldn't deal with the extra runs. I'm happy with the positive intent with bat; first ten overs with ball was good too. Need to sharpen up for the next game.
Read what Markram has to say!
Aiden Markram | Player of the Match: Feels fantastic. The platform was laid beautifully by Quinny and Rassie. Gave us the freedom. Some days it comes off, some days it doesn't. Pretty clear with what's expected of me as a batter. Like every other team, we try to play a positive brand of cricket. Initially you want to get a feel for the wicket. Ultimately it's about backing your options. Happy with how it worked out. The wicket played really well. The ball was travelling. Feels good to be on the positive side of things. To start well was in the World Cup was important and something that we talked about.
As it was!

Strike Rotation made difference in Match result?
Bcas nearly equal boundary percentage by both#SAvSL#CricketWorldCup2023
That should be curtains!
Sri Lanka are all-out, and South Africa win by 102 runs. Plenty of actions, but it draws to a close with South Africa grabbing a massive win in their tournament opener.
OUT
Kasun Rajitha departs after 33 off 31 balls. One wicket remaining now. How close can SL get, given the NRR that might come in to play later in the tournament?
Marco Jansen finishes his quota of overs
Jansen has conceded 92 runs in his ten overs. He also took two wickets tonight.
Where did that come from?
Kasun Rajitha pulls it over for a SIX!

The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 will see South Africa and Sri Lanka locking horns on September 7 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. South Africa, known for their poor performances in major tournaments, are determined to change their reputation this time around.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka will be eager to prove their worth after a humiliating defeat in the finals of the Asia Cup 2023 against India. Although they have struggled against top-tier teams in recent years, they possess talented players who are capable of unsettling the Proteas.
Anrich Nortje has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury in what comes as a big blow for South Africa. Temba Bavuma and his men will rely on the experience of Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi and the young talent of Gerald Coetzee to lead their bowling attack in the tournament.

Sri Lanka's hopes will rest on Kusal Mendis, who recently scored a brilliant 158 in a warm-up game against Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Dunith Wellalage, the young left-arm spinner, will seek to replicate his heroics from the 2023 Asia Cup.
The pitch at the Arun Jaitley Stadium is expected to offer good pace, with 320 runs expected to be par. The weather in Delhi during the first half of the game will be sunny, with rising humidity unlikely to significantly impact the match.
