After a historic win over Australia (AUS) in the second Test, West Indies (WI) were full of confidence ahead of the first ODI in Melbourne. However, they failed to deliver as the hosts won the first match by eight wickets. Debutant Xavier Barlett destroyed the Windies batting unit by picking up four wickets while Sean Abbott and Cameron Green picked up two each. On the other hand, Kaecy Carty was sensational with the bat for West Indies as he hit 88 runs while Roston Chase made 59 runs.
Meanwhile, Australia will be making multiple changes to their squad for the second ODI, to be played at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), on February 4. Travis Head has been released from the squad, while Barlett too won’t feature in the second ODI as the team management decided to manage his workload. Josh Hazlewood has joined the squad for the second ODI while Jake Fraser-McGurk is expected to make his debut.
