Ireland (IRE) and South Africa (SA) will collide in the second ODI of the three-match series, at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, in Abu Dhabi, on Friday, October 4.

Ireland will look to bounce back after suffering a heavy defeat by 139 runs in the first ODI. They will look to take inspiration from their comeback in the T20I series, where they lost the first game but bounced back strongly to win the second. There is enough ammunition in the Ireland squad to pull off an upset against the Rainbow Nation.

South Africa haven't had the best of times in the white-ball format since their agonizing defeat to India in the finals of the T20 World Cup 2024 in June. A new-look side was whitewashed in a three-match T20I series in the West Indies. Afghanistan rubbed salt into the wounds as they defeated them 2-1 in a subsequent ODI series. After the T20I series ended 1-1, the Proteas have a good chance to triumph in the ODI leg of the tour by putting on a strong show on Friday.

Sheikh Zayed Stadium Pitch Report

The pitch of the Sheikh Zayed Stadium has been quite good for batting so far in the three games that have been played on this tour. The T20Is saw high-scoring battles and the pitch in the first ODI didn't have any demons. South Africa chose to bat first and posted 271/9 and it proved to be too many for Ireland to chase down. But the pitch tends to get easier for batting in the second innings and it won't be surprising to see the Proteas opting to chase in the second game if they win the toss.
